As such Radio, TV, Weekly Free News papers, monthly journals play a vital role not only flashing all news items of international and local as well entertains to acquire more knowledge in general. One among them Uthayan, a weekly Tamil News Paper, for the fast 15 years with an unstinting devoted services in media line Mr. R.N.Logendralingam, the Chief Editor has created a remarkable achievements in all respects. Particularly his friendship throughout the world with media persons, writers and literate scholars are abundant by virtue his greatness. Similarly his effort to conduct annual events an additional event of International Award Festival also has become very popular. Particularly Uthayan International Award function is very popular in Canada.
For the past three years Uthayan has been indentifying and honouring people from Canada and abroad, who had served the community . This year grand event was held on 21st March 10 at Peter Banquet Hall (Milner & Markham) with the same galore and success, witnessed by all VIPs from various businesses, political. Medias, writers and family circle. Following personalities were honoured and presented intermittently various awards by various special guests Parliamentarians both Provincial and Federal leading professional advocates and business magnets. Similarly all guest speakers were also garlanded now and then. Former Minister and present mayoral candidate George Smitherman, Derek Ley.M.P, Indira Naidoo Harris, Direcor of communications, Ministrer of Citizenship and Immigration, Dr Eric Hoskins, (representing the Primier) Hon.Rob Oliphant.M.P, Mr Brad Duquid.M.P.P Maria Minna.PC.MP,Mr Thomas Saras, President of National Ethnic Press & Media Council of Canada,.Dr Eric Hoskins.M.P.P., Andrew Kannia.M.P and Chief Police officials of GTA, Municipal Councillors Logan Ganapathy, Neethan Shan, Mrs Melani David, Mr Manuel Jesudoss. Margosa Credit Union Mr Warren Vigneswaran, and others felicitated Uthayan and extended their greetings during the function.

As per our Hindu convention, the program started with prayer, National Anthem, mark of silence to the bereaved souls in Sri Lanka. The master of ceremony by Miss Swarna Anandaraja and Mr Datchanan from the beginning to end was so impressive since their active role of introducing the guests and cultural program was unique and appreciable in addition to their message of condolence of their music master Mrs Bhavadharini. With the inaugural music by Bhaarathi Arts, selected recent and old Tamil film songs sung by Miss Anusha Sivalingam, Mr Prabha, Tushi, Jude, Annanathan, Sajeeka, Tulasi, Mayuran and Dayabaran Arumugam as well the Bharatha Natyam Dance by Narthana seshtram,Chilompoli Shethram, Shakthi Narthanalayam were also pleasing. The whole credit goes to the excellent stage management and arrangement done by Mr Ratneswaran, Priya and Bhaarathi Arts Volunteers in absence of their pioneers which added festive mood throughout the function.
The President of Canada Tamil Chamber of Commerce Mr Ken kirupa, Geethawaani Radio President Mr Nada Rajkumar, Tamil National congress president Mr David Poobalasingam also extended their greetings by their special speech on this occasion.
The chief Editor R.N.Logendralingam welcomed all, introduced the guests, award winners and the music troupe. In his speech he highlighted the growth of Uthayan for the past 15 years and paid tribute to late Mrs Bavadharini, the director of Bhaarathi artists and praised their achievements in imparting fine arts to the younger generation. He also briefed out the selection of the awardees and the impact on this function.
Dr Vasanthakumar (Computek) presided over the function and in his presidential address he mentioned the greatness of the editor, who has been regarded by all a very good social service minded man, and through his media activities he has achieved an identity of success.
Uthayan International Speiclal Award reciepient from Sri Lanka Mr B.H.Abdul Hameed an well renowned International Broadcaster in his address thanked Uthayan and appreciated his media services, for having established a friendship bridge throughout the world with dedication and immense hard work to run this weekly edittion for the past 15 years with great success and invaluable moral support of all. He also honoured Mr and Mrs Logendralingam by presenting a shawl as a token of gratitude. and felicitated thanks to all.
The whole events was really conducted in grand manner with pleasing light music program rendered by the students of Bhaarathi Arts, reflected as a musical tribute to the recent death of the music director Mrs Bavadharini. Main speakers the mayoral candidate George smithermen, Derek Ley, Advocate Melani David, Abdul Hakeem etc were really very inspirative and proved a great success of this international award ceremony of Uthayan, which concluded with with grand dinner feast and entertained all to great extent.
Bhaarathi Arts singers and musicians really performed with latest film songs in full swing and got very good appreciation.
The award ceremony was covered by the local televisions Tamil One, TVI that too live broadcast through net by NETIZONES (NAG RAVI) watched in 32 countries. Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors were also felicitated on the stage. Above all the refreshments and delicious dinner served by Yogas Catering under the direction of the proprietor Mr Chandran with team of volunteers as well the volunteer service rendered by Gurukulam Iyyappa seva sangam were altogether beyond words of appreciation.
